Badminton veteran Dieckhoff leaves BV Gifhorn after eight years

Benjamin Dieckhoff smashed the balls for BV Gifhorn over the net for eight years, during the Corona break the veteran decided to change. Dieckhoff leaves the regional badminton division due to the lack of prospects for missions. “We have new players and are just too many men in the first team. Since I’m no longer the youngest and I have the plan to play nationally for as long as possible, I decided to leave the club, ”says Dieckhoff. The 33-year-old will remain in badminton and even the Regionalliga Nord, Dieckhoff will move to SG Lengede / Vechelde.

Farewell thoughts even before the season

Dieckhoff thought of saying goodbye to BVG even before the start of the season, another reason for his departure is the season goal in the team around captain Dennis Friedenstab. Dieckhoff: “The ambition of wanting to move up to the 2nd league, I couldn’t have done it in terms of training. In a year at the latest, I would have had to make a decision anyway. ”Because Gifhorn is Dieckhoff’s favorite for promotion. But. “I would never have left this season if I had known that I was absolutely needed.”

Captain regrets departure

Dieckhoff no longer had the feeling of being needed in Gifhorn. At the start of the season four weeks ago, when BVG celebrated two 7-1 wins against Berliner SC and Berliner Brauereien II, there was no veteran Dieckhoff. His brother and ex-BV trainer Lukas Dieckhoff had married. His long-time companion and BVG captain Friedenstab regrets Dieckhoff’s decision: “For me personally it is of course a shame, because Bennie has been with us for eight years and was an important cornerstone of the team.”

Dieckhoff has experienced a lot in his eight years in Gifhorn. He particularly fondly remembers the season with his then doubles partner Adrian Belke in the Oberliga reserve, in which the duo was able to show a winning streak of 11-0. And of course the promotion to the regional league with BVG II in 2016, when the Berlin breweries were pushed out of the top of the table in a direct duel on the last match day. “We both climbed up, but it was great that we could still catch up with them,” says Dieckhoff.

Separation for good

The duel between Dieckhoff and his old teammates will definitely not take place in the first half of the season, as he will be banned until the start of the second half due to the club change this season. In general, the game will be suspended until January 15th. But he would be happy to see you again soon. “You know each other well, of course, it will definitely be a nice duel,” says Dieckhoff, who is leaving the club on good terms. “I’m definitely not going in a bad mood, especially in the last three years we’ve had a great group. I will keep the club in good memory. “
