Andre Iguodala: “The health of the players remains the number 1 factor in all the decisions taken”

While each side continues to press for the start date of the 2020-2021 season, Andre Iguodala wanted everyone to be able to be heard and have their say, especially through the votes of the players.

The vice-president of the players’ union for his part heard the arguments of everyone, he who was until the NBA final with Miami, even if he did not exceed the 20 minutes on average per game and who therefore understands that players who have also reached the conference finals want extra cool down.

“We hear different arguments from different players”, he slipped. “I think it’s our role to listen to all the views and thoughts of the players. There are a few teams, the four teams that made the conference final in the “bubble”, that got over that mental strain… They played late in the season. It would be a quick return to competition for these guys ”.

The risk of injury also at the heart of the issues

All arguments are admissible, and that concerning a possible physical relapse or serious injuries will obviously be taken into account according to “Iggy”. When the league counts its lost dollars, the union fears losing too many players to injury. “We always consider the health of the players as the number one factor in all decisions taken”, he added. “First of all there is the Covid, and this is the priority, and at the same time the recovery of some of the teams that have gone far in the season”.

Of course, Andre Iguodala also evokes the financial aspect and this famous “billion” which would be lost if the season starts in January. The Heat winger justifies the negotiations that players need to know where that number comes from, and how the NBA assesses it. Same thing on the part of salary which will be punctured. One thing is certain, he ensures that the discussions are cordial, and that the NBA remains a “great partner” for the players.
