The International Union of IBUs announced today that biathletes will not go to China due to the persistent coronavirus situation. All SP races will take place in Europe this season, and the pre-Olympic races in Asia should be replaced by another test program.
Nové Město na Moravě, which was confirmed at the recent IBU congress as the venue of the World Championship 2024, was originally to hold sprint, fighter and mixed relay races from 11 to 14 March. In addition, the same individual races will take the place of China from March 4 to 7, as well as men’s and women’s relay races at the outset.

The takeover of the Chinese SP by the organizers from Nové Město is the only change in the final trimester of the season, the program of which was announced today by the IBU. As she stated earlier, the world championships in Pokljuka from 9 to 21 February are firmly planned. After less than two weeks’ break, there will be two races in the Vysočina region, followed by only the World Cup finals from 18 to 21 March at Holmenkollen. However, the IBU intends to review the end-of-season program at the end of January based on the development of the pandemic in individual countries.

The International Biathlon Union has previously adjusted the calendar of the season so that teams travel as little as possible during a difficult coronavirus situation. This calendar year, four parts of the World Championships will take place in only two venues, Kontiolahti and Hochfilzen, and in January the Oberhof will host two stops.
