Alex Zanardi was discharged from the San Raffaele Hospital in Milan and transferred to Padua, in a structure not far from his family. After the accident in Siena on June 19th, the handbike champion underwent numerous interventions. His condition is now more stable.

Zanardi hospitalized after the accident
From the Milan hospital they explained:
“The patient has reached a physical and neurological condition of general stability which has allowed the transfer to another hospital with all the necessary clinical specialties and the consequent approach to the family home”.
The Paduan hospital is about ten kilometers from Noventa Padovana where theformer Formula 1 driver lives together with wife Daniela and to the son Niccolò.

After the dramatic accident of 19 June aboard his handbike near Siena Zanardi had been urgently transported, operated on and hospitalized until 21 July before being transferred to Villa Beretta, a facility specializing in rehabilitation in the Lecco area.
The transfer to the San Raffaele
Only three days later, however, the transfer to San Raffaele where he arrived “in conditions of severe neurological and systemic instability”. Here, as the official notes explain, the 54-year-old pilot
“He first underwent a period of intensive resuscitation, then a surgical procedure, first of all to resolve the late complications due to the primary trauma and then for the facial and cranial reconstruction”.
