AA Ghent washes away the European hangover on the Freethiel, Yaremchuk makes hat trick | Jupiler Pro League 2020/2021

After the heavy 1-4 defeat in the Europa League, AA Gent beat Waasland-Beveren with the same figures. Especially in the first half, the class difference was enormous. Roman Yaremchuk made a flawless hat-trick.

Waasland-Beveren – Ghent in a nutshell:

  • Key moment: There was no real turning point, the difference in level was far too great for that. Yet it was striking how the home team could not react after the rejected goal. Ghent continued on its élan and eventually put 4 more in the basket before half-time.
  • Man of the match: Roman Yaremchuk led his team to victory with a flawless hat-trick. The Ukrainian striker was always present and finished three times coolly.
  • Remarkable: After his injury, Odjidja was allowed to start a match again for the first time. The Ghent captain ruled midfield and crowned his excellent match with a handsome assist on Yaremchuk.

Unleashed Ghent, Waasland-Beveren plays in a pile for the rest

After two postponed games in a row, Waasland-Beveren was finally able to prepare for another league game. Nick Hayen’s team welcomed the fiercely troubled Ghent, which also missed a few strong players tonight.

The Buffalos started the game eagerly and Niangbo dropped the opening goal twice. Not much later, Jaremtsjoek did score, but the VAR rejected the goal due to hands from Bukari.

Ghent was not put off and kept pushing the accelerator. The home team did not know how to make arrows and when Bukari was knocked down in the box, the ball hit the spot. Jackers saved Dorsch’s penalty kick, but the goalkeeper had no recourse in the rebound. 0-1 for Ghent.

The visitors continued on their élan and 1 minute later Yaremchuk made it 0-2 after a nice individual action. Waasland-Beveren ran after an elusive ball and on a pass from Mohammadi, Jaremchuk made his second of the evening.

Ghent smelled blood and refused to release its stranglehold. A splitting pass from Odjidja put Yaremchuk alone in front of goal. The Ukrainian striker did not miss and completed his flawless hat trick. With a 0-4 deficit at half time, the home team was allowed to re-source.

More balanced second half, Sinani with the savior

Coach Hayen’s thunder at half-time had its effect and Waasland-Beveren came out of the dressing room better. After a messy phase, the ball ended up with Sinani who shot the ball past Bolat in a while.

It was not more than an honor saver for the home team. Ghent rolled off the match in savings mode and let Waasland-Beveren come into the game better. Still, Wim De Decker’s men held out easily.

Ghent breaks its negative spiral and moves up to place 12. Waasland-Beveren remains penultimate for the time being.
