A declining and renewable contract each year for Austin Rivers at the Knicks

If New York has not managed to take a big hit on the “free agency” market, the franchise has followed its strategy last summer, only distributing short contracts to players determined to join it.

Alec Burks (6 million), Elfrid Payton (5) and Nerlens Noel (5) have all signed a one-season contract.

And if the “sign-and-trade” allows Austin Rivers to have a three-year contract on its side, this one is quite special. Indeed, the lease is declining (3.5 million for 2020/21, 3.3 million for 2021/22 and 3.15 million for 2022/23). Above all, only the first season is guaranteed, New York being able to release the “combo guard” before each offseason, in 2021 and 2022. The franchise thus keeps the maximum financial flexibility.

She still has quite a few in this “free agency” 2020 since she has 18.3 million dollars to spend, and even 23.3 million if she uses her “room exception” to keep Elfrid Payton.
