2. Bundesliga: Hamburger SV surrendered two points late at Holstein Kiel

Hamburger SV missed their sixth win of the season on the seventh matchday in the 2nd Bundesliga. Coach Daniel Thioune’s team scored 1: 1 (0: 1) at Holstein Kiel, but is still at the top of the table with 17 points. In the first non-promotion place, the Kiel are currently five points less.

HSV showed two very different halves. Before the break, the guests dominated the game, acted very patiently and used one of the few good scoring opportunities through Moritz Heyer. After a corner, Jeremy Dudziak took the ball with his thigh and lobbed it directly into the six-yard area, where Heyer was able to head in from close range (43rd minute).

Holstein was better at the game in the second half. The Hamburger withdrew without giving up defensive stability. Under Thioune, the promotion favorite looks more sovereign and more stable – and yet the coach who came from Osnabrück cannot prevent him from giving away victories that were believed to be safe thanks to goals conceded later. The HSV gave up many important points in the preseason. In Kiel, an outnumbered counterattack was not played well in the attack, in direct return the substitute Josha Vagnoman misjudged a long pass and so Joshua Mees came free (90th + 1).
