Sunday began with fans, competitors, and Alex Smith’s own family nervously looking for the Washington quarterback to avoid injury in his first second leg from a leg injury so cruel that it could have cost him his life. Sunday afternoon ended with tears on Dak Prescott’s face as the Dallas Cowboys took the quarterback to a hospital for the locker room and surgery on his mangled right ankle. So much production had been so easy for quarterbacks in the NFL that season that the risks involved in the game were easy to overlook. Not sunday.
