Weak match between STVV and Kortrijk does not deliver both teams …

STVV and KV Kortrijk held it to a salt-free draw. The home team deserved the victory, but a lack of purpose and luck kept the Limburgers from the three points. For example, STVV did not benefit from the stupid red card for Faïz Selemani. The Canaries get stuck in 17th place.

The first half ended 0-0. There is really not much more to say about it. However, it seemed to start well when Lee docked from the crescent moon. His shot flew just wide of the goal of a grounded Adam Jakubech. Halfway through the first half, Samuel Asamoah fired a cannonball. His shot just swept over. Kortrijk did not offer anything in return, unless you count Derijck’s half-header attempt with some good will.

For the rest, the game was stopped far too often. Foul after foul, foul after foul. STVV used high pressing, Kortrijk had a lot of trouble with it. There was hardly any movement on the away team, so that no one was available. STVV did try, but it was too slow to threaten. So rest with 0-0. A logical consequence of the very weak first half.

Good start to second half

As bad the first period was, so good the second half announced itself. Kortrijk immediately signed for the best chance of the match. Golubovic played Selemani on the right, he used his speed well and put the ball perfectly between everything and everyone at Michiel Jonckheere. The midfielder was able to lay free, but his attempt was stopped by Kenny Steppe.

The fire seemed to be on the fuse, because the answer from STVV was not long in coming. Filippov played Asamoah, he reached Suzuki with a smart ball. Jakubech kept the Japanese from scoring a strong parade. Golubovic was able to turn Lee’s rebound off the line just in time.

Almost immediately afterwards, newcomer Cacace took a walk on the left. The New Zealander played to Lee, who deviated the ball with precision in one time. His subtle touch of ball seemed to be headed for the nets, but shattered on the post.

Lights off

STVV seemed to be attracting the game and deserved a goal. In the 71st minute, the light went out at Faïz Selemani. In a throw-in, he vented his frustration with an elbow movement towards Colombatto’s chin. The VAR called Put to the screen, who did not hesitate and ruled that this behavior should not be on a football field. So red for Selemani. Talk about a stupid action.

Kortrijk had little to do in the offensive, because of the red card it seemed to be shivering to the end. STVV initially also did not take advantage of the man-more situation, so that the match continued to ripple towards the end.

Nevertheless, a final offensive announced itself. An attempt by Nazon flew over. Suzuki, then, clearly showed Truien’s inability to finish chances. On a well-tailored cross from Garcia, the free-standing Japanese headed wide. Another shot flew wide and Jakubech had to push two attempts into a corner.

With a lot of luck the Guys managed to stay upright. STVV was no longer against the nets and so it gets stuck on the only victory on the opening matchday against Ghent. Kortrijk had a good portion of luck and thus took a point towards West Flanders. STVV remains with the draw in the lower regions of the rankings, Kortrijk also sinks deeper.
