VIDEO: Violent beating of a player to a referee for whistling a foul in a basketball game in Uruguay

As a result of the attack, the referee was taken by ambulance to a health center, where he spent the night under observation.

A basketball player severely beat a referee during a veterans game last weekend in Montevideo, Uruguay. The attack occurred while the Atlético Welcome and Galacticos clubs faced each other, after the referee, Mario Añorga, whistled an offense in attack on the player Pablo Faluotico, the channel TyC Sports reported.

Immediately after the arbitration decision, Welcome’s Faluotico did not hold back and knocked Añorga down with a blow to the face, who, while on the ground, continued to be attacked until several players intervened. As a result of the beating, the collegiate was taken by ambulance to a health center, where he spent the night under observation.

Atlético Welcome repudiated what happened through a release published on social networks and reported that Faluotico will be prohibited from entering the institution and participating in any related event. Likewise, the club decided to withdraw the team from the competition and “go to the extreme in order to eradicate the violent ones from the sport.

The Basketball Veterans Union too express his rejection of the basketball player’s unsportsmanlike behavior, while the Union of Official Basketball Judges (UJOBB) will carry out the respective complaint before all the bodies linked to the competition. “Mario Añorga’s situation is stable and he is hospitalized awaiting his evolution. We will not participate in any tournament where the aggressor participates in the future”, reported la UJOBB.
