Six more duels were played in the main card of the evening, only one of which ended with the decision of the judges.
The main battles were opened by the wrestlers of the 93-kilogram division Magomad Ankalayev and Ions Kutelaba. Ankalayev, who had previously defeated Kutelab, celebrated the slaughter of the first round, but in that fight the referee made a serious mistake by stopping the duel too soon. This time, however, there was no place for questions about the judge’s incompetence, because the fight ended with a “clean” slaughter.
Immediately afterwards, the ladies went to the octagon – Loren Murphy and Lily Shakirov. The experienced Murphy won by forcing the UFC debutors to give up in the second round.
After the fight show, Jacob Malkon and Philip Hovs met. This fight ended very quickly – only in 18 seconds the opponent was brutally knocked out by Hovs. Both middleweight wrestlers spent their debut fight in the UFC.
After them, heavyweight Walt Harris and Alexander Volkov went to the octagon. In this duel in the second round, Volkov won with a strong blow to the corps.
In the penultimate duel of the evening, Robert Whitaker and Jared Canyon met. This was the only evening duel that required a judges’ decision. The judges unanimously gave the victory to Vitaker, who will most likely take the next fight again for the champion belt.
Finally, the long-awaited duel between Nurmagomedov and Geichi took place in the octagon.
In the first round, both wrestlers chose to stay in position and exchanged several dangerous blows. Within five minutes, Geichi broke out with several sharp blows to the opponent’s leg, but Nurmagomedov led the fight to the ground floor only at the end of the round. True, the Dagestan was in a good enough position to end the fight with pain, but there was not enough time left.
Insufficient time in the first round, it was implemented by Nurmagomedov in the introduction of the second five minutes. The Dagestan quickly got his opponent on the ground floor at the edge of the octagon and closed the triangular strangulation technique. Geici repeatedly hit the opponent’s hand, signaling that he was surrendering, but the referee did not see it and the fight was stopped when the American had already lost consciousness.
Immediately after the tear he won, Nurmagomedov burst into tears and, after a fight, revealed in an interview that his mother had promised to end her career after this father’s death after this father: “I keep my name. This was my last fight in the UFC.”
Nurmagomedov ended his career with 29 victories in the same battle, but Geichi was the third loss in 25 duels.
