There we were: an early final in Mexico

As part of the celebration of these first 30 years of Viva Basketball, in the coming weeks we will be remembering some historical moments of basketball that, thanks to our work, we had the opportunity to witness. On some occasions we were able to be live, on others we had to share the news through the printed magazine, the radio program or on the digital site. So join us on this journey, where we will remember moments that are part of the memory of every good basketball fan.

Rockets vs Knicks an early final in Mexico

This memory falls wonderfully at this time of the NBA Finals, it was the month of October and the NBA spoiled the Mexican public with a sensational game, two of the best teams in the league face to face, with two of the best centers in history as banners, nobody imagined that Rockets and Knicks would meet in the NBA Finals of that 93-94 season.

The Palacio de los Deportes wore its best finery, it was on the night of Sunday, October 24, 1993 when the Houston and New York squads jumped to the Copper Dome court in front of about 20 thousand fans, who gathered to enjoy what at that time was just the second NBA game in Mexico.

The victory went to the Knicks, who beat the Rockets, Ewing won the duel against Olajuwon, although in the Finals of that season the title went to the Rockets, In Viva Basquet we had the opportunity to chat with the protagonists, our partner Gabe Martin, spoke with Pat Riley, Ewing himself and one of the darlings at the time, John Starks.

That visit by Rockets and Knicks was engraved in the memory of many fans who, as we said, were able to enjoy what was a preview of the NBA Finals and two teams that marked an era in the 90s.
