Thunderclap on the bad planet, this Thursday morning, at the Indonesian Masters (Super 500), where Breton Thom Gicquel and Delphine Delrue eliminated the Thai vice-world champions!

Strong in the first round on Tuesday, Thom Gicquel and Delphine Delrue (world No.21) moved up a gear in the round of 16 of the Masters of Indonesia (Super 500 to $ 400,000). After having jostled them last October in Paris (15-21, 16-21), the French numbers 1 simply ejected (21-11, 21-16 in 37 ‘) from the mixed table the seeds N.4 , the Thai Puavaranukroh – Taerattanachai, all the same number 3 planetary and vice-world champions in title!

In front, from start to finish, during the first round, the young French (both 21 years since Thom Gicquel’s birthday, on January 12) have folded the deal by taking orders in the “money time” of the second round.

“Delphine does a great series of serves and we go to 19-15. We then manage to finish the set very well. We are super happy with the result but especially with the way it played! “Thom Gicquel told Badzine after the match.

With this historic success – the second against the N.3, after that against the Japanese Watanabe – Higsahino in Denmark in October 2019 – the duo confirms their upward trajectory which should lead them to the Olympic Games in Tokyo this summer, scoring big, big points in the BWF ranking. But above all it shows that the 2017 European junior champions clearly “match” in the big leagues!

A boiling hot quarter to come!

The next step, the quarter-final on Friday, will be another opportunity to prove that they no longer set any limits. While they were scheduled this morning on court 3 – unfortunately not televised – this time they should be in the spotlight against the locals Oktavianti – Jordan (N.5 and ex-N.2), winners of the last Open de France. The Istora Senayan Hall in Jakarta (7,166 seats) is sure to be boiling hot!
