The Chaudière-Appalaches Badminton Club sets up a competition team

The Chaudière-Appalaches-Lévis Badminton Club (CBCA) recently announced a pilot project that consists of the creation of a competition team that will represent the Chaudière-Appalaches region, starting in September.

The setting up of this pilot project will allow the CBCA to better structure the organization of tournaments and give all young people the chance to try out the competition, regardless of their level.

“We realized, over the years, there are a few players who compete, [mais ] there are 2-3 per tournament only. Looks like the world was signing up individually. We are going to officially form a competition team that brings together the Chaudière-Appalaches Club, so that we have more people representing the South Shore, ”said Stéphane Michaud, President of the CBCA.

The creation of this competition team will also make it possible to have a greater representation of players in the provincial tournaments.

“Our goal is to bring together players from different clubs. We [leur] just ask to register for fall and winter weekend classes. This is the only condition we ask for, ”he added.

As for the young hopefuls of primary school, they will be able to learn about tournaments, while being well supervised.

A team divided into two categories

The competition team will be divided into two categories. The hope team will bring together young people from elementary school, as well as those from 1st and 2nd secondary, and is aimed at young players wishing to learn about competition.

The provincial team, for its part, will bring together young people from secondary 2, 3, 4 and 5. This category is intended for players of the highest caliber and who want to perform on the provincial scene. The two categories will form only one and the same team.

During the competitive season, players will participate in the Black Knight tournaments and those of the Fradette junior, among others. A coach will also accompany the athletes during these tournaments.

« The Black Knight tournaments, which are certified by Badminton Quebec, cover the entire Quebec region. We can meet people from eastern Quebec, Montreal, from everywhere », Indicated Mr. Michaud.

A long-term vision

Founded in 2014 by Blaise Ratté, a physical education teacher who has been playing badminton for 20 years, the club brought together first and foremost recreational players. However, several players are starting to stand out and are making tournaments.

Blaise Ratté and Stéphane Michaud, who arrived with the club a year and a half ago, had the same vision regarding the dream of creating a competitive team.

« How it started, it’s really our interest to give a taste of the youth competition, mainly in elementary school because there is really nothing. We want to give young people the chance to play tournaments. The competition team is to take over », Declared Stéphane Michaud.

He wants the project to be long-term, that over time, it brings together more and more competitive players, but also players from different places, whether they are from Lévis, Saint-Nicolas , Montmagny and even Saint-Georges.

« If we bring the best players together, on weekends, it creates synergy and it’s motivating for young people. », Said the president of the CBCA.

Stéphane Michaud believes that the creation of this competition team will create enthusiasm among them.

Calendar and registrations

The first tournaments will take place from October and the season will last until April. The registration form will be distributed at the beginning of August, but it is still possible for young people who are interested to register from now until September.
