Strong debut of BV Darmstadt in the badminton league

SOUTH HESSE – (udo). The two top-class badminton teams in the region faced the same opponents at the start of the season. The result, however, was very different. While newcomers BV Darmstadt made their debut in second place in the league after two wins, TV Dieburg / Groß-Zimmer, established there, experienced “a weekend with mixed feelings”, as team spokesman Kristian Achenbach described. In numbers: 1: 7 against 1. BC Kassel and 7: 1 against OTG Gera.

He himself had to move up from the second team because Timo Hechler and Steffen Berger were missing two regular players. “But even without the two of them, more would definitely have been possible with a performance like on Sunday, but nothing just went together,” said Achenbach, referring to the game in Kassel, in which Katja Steinhof alone could score points. There were three matches in the third set, but most of them were clearly lost. It went better in Gera: Achenbach himself made the victory perfect after doubles Kai Karnstedt / Thomas Kaltenmeier, Katja Steinhof / Natalia Kashevskaia, Achenbach / Sven Karnstedt had scored as well as Katja Steinhof, who also scored a match point in the most exciting game of the day fended off as before in doubles. Thomas Kaltenmeier and the Mixed Kashevskaia / Sven Karnstedt finally increased to 7: 1.

At the start of the season, BV Darmstadt, with its top line-up, presented itself more consistently. The basis for the 6: 2 in Gera were four individual victories by Robert Janz, Lukas Thorand, Pascal Roth and Isabel Scheele, after the men’s doubles Janz / Roth and Thorand / Tobias Blasius had presented a 2-0 lead. The course at 5: 3 in Gera was similar. After two double victories, the men in the team also scored three individual points from Janz, Roth and Thorand, who, however, benefited from the opponent’s abandonment.
