13 min: The corner flashed toward the near post, where Laporte fired a first shot just inches behind the left post. Very close to the opening goal.
08:44
12 min: City becomes metronomic. Suddenly, De Bruyne and Sterling join down the inner left channel. Sterling reaches the line and wins a corner ahead of Egan.
08:44
11 min: United haven’t shown much yet. McBurnie wins a couple of long balls but can’t find Brewster. Berge rushes to the right, but is removed from the game easily enough by Cancelo.
08:41
9 min: The city has so far enjoyed 80 percent of the property. A pattern set early doors, I’ll be bound.
08:40
8 min: Cancelo swings in from the left. It’s a juicy cross and is hit well by Torres who flashes a header to the top right. Ramsdale is walking away in full force, a very decent reflex. Mahrez tries to maintain the train and clings to the loose ball on the right, but his cross is not good.
08:38
6 min: The city continues to dominate possession, albeit with little effect.
08:36
4 min: The city quickly settled into its pretty passport patterns. Mahrez tries to free Torres via the inside right channel but puts too much weight on the ball and it’s a goal kick.
08:34
2 minutes: Dias will have felt that. Keep going, said Chris Wilder. A letter of intent.
08:34
Nine seconds: McBurnie sticks a shoulder of strength in the chest of Dias, who rattles to the floor. Uff! Ooyah! Welcome to Bramall Lane.

Manchester City got the game going … but not before the players take a knee. Black lives count. There is no room for racism.

The last post. Remembering the fallen … and memories of Nobby Stiles who passed away yesterday. Players will wear black armbands to honor the 1966 world champion.

The teams are out! United wears their red and white stripes, while City is sky blue of choice. Both shirts feature poppies in memory of the fallen. It is extremely rainy and windy in Sheffield this lunchtime. Not a word before Chris Wilder’s game, despite BT Sport conducting an interview in which he promised his team “will keep beating”. The bell will ring in a minute or two.
08:17
This is Sid Lowe, who is now in charge of Manchester City.

Peps Pow-Wow before the game. “We have to be more consistent in a lot of games to make sure we’re on the right track. It’s not easy to attack a defense with five people in the back and many people in the middle. It’s hardest for the striker. Ferran Torres did really well [against Marseille] and we’ll try again. We know the quality of Sheffield United. The position in the table is as it is, but we know the quality two seasons ago in the championship and last season in the Premier League so we have no doubts. We are at the beginning of the season and they will have results in the future. “

Sheffield United made a change from the XI, which narrowly lost at Anfield. Max Lowe replaces John Lundstram in midfield. Lundstram, who refused to sign a new contract, collapses on the bank.
Manchester City are making three changes to the team that passed Marseille in the middle of the week. Joao Cancelo, Bernardo Silva and Riyad Mahrez replace Oleksandr Zinchenko, Ilkay Gundogan and Phil Foden, who are all on the bench. Kevin De Bruyne starts for the first time since the Leeds draw four weeks ago. Sergio Aguero is out with a thigh injury.

preamble
It’s way too early to panic. Nevertheless, both teams were able to achieve a positive result this afternoon. Sheffield United haven’t taken a win this season and they’re runner-up right now, but it’s not like they played particularly badly: it didn’t take too much to change at Anfield last Saturday for the blades to all Have taken three points from the champions. They haven’t beaten Manchester City in the league since 2000 but given City’s uncertain performance at West Ham last week and the way Chris Wilder’s side got them to come here for a one-goal win work it’s not a dream to break that run last season.
How for the city? They won’t be desperate to win … but possibly falling further behind the top flight won’t work. Pep Guardiola’s men have once again had an excellent result in Europe, this time a comfortable 3-0 walk in Marseille, but their home form hasn’t worked quite as well and they haven’t won the Premier League since opening day at Wolves. They are the favorites to prevail here … but if they hit the opening goal things could get interesting because City didn’t win any of their last seven Away games in which they have fallen behind.
The table is set for a delicious lunch, then … Both United and City win more than they can and everything in between. It’s on!
Kicking off: 12.30 p.m. GMT.
