Sergino Dest is still struggling with language in the process of adapting to Barcelona. When talking to Lionel Messi, the United States player could only smile.
Dest is one of the new Barcelona players this summer. The 19-year-old wingback was bought from Ajax Amsterdam for 21 million euros, or around Rp 365 billion, and was contracted for five years.
As experienced by many footballers, Dest admits that he is still constrained by language upon arrival at the new club. For example, he admitted that he did not understand when Messi, the Barcelona superstar, asked him to talk.
“Today I saw all the players, Messi too. Messi does not speak English, but it is special to meet him,” Dest told him. WE.
“To be honest, I don’t know what he said to me. But, we both just smiled at each other. So, everything’s fine, right?” he explained.
Dest himself revealed his reasons for choosing Barcelona, which was coached by Ronald Koeman. Previously, Koeman, when training the Dutch national team, failed to get Dest, who preferred to defend the United States national team.
Dest became one of Barcelona’s recruits this summer. Previously, the Spanish League giants had already hooked Miralem Pjanic, Francisco Trincao, Pedri, Matheus Fernandes, and repatriated Philippe Coutinho.
Last season, Dest played 36 times for Ajax, and made 2 goals and 6 assists. This season, Dest has made its debut in Barcelona, when played against Sevilla last weekend.
“I chose Barcelona because I always dreamed of defending him. Ronaldinho is my idol and a legend at this club. When I found out that Barcelona was interested, I didn’t have to think twice,” he said.
