The rugby championship was thrown into chaos with the news that world champions South Africa will officially withdraw from the tournament.
The New Zealand Herald reports that tournament organizers Sanzaar and Rugby Australia will announce this on Friday.
This means that the competition will be reduced from 12 to six games and only the Wallabies, All Blacks and Pumas will be involved.
According to the report, South Africa was not confident that the Springboks would have had enough time to prepare for the tournament.
The championship will take place over a week in Sydney and Brisbane from October 31st.
There was a proposal to replace the Springboks with a barbarian team in the tournament to make sure the draw remains intact.
