RFS football players enter the semi-finals of the Latvian Cup, then also Kurzeme clubs and «Valmiera» / Article / LSM.lv

The current owners of the trophy RFS won the leading football league “Riga” FC 3: 2 in the fight for a place in the Latvian Cup semi-final on Wednesday, according to the organizers. Previously, on Wednesday, FC “Liepāja”, FC “Ventspils” and “Valmiera” FC also entered the semi-finalists.

RFS were now up 7 – 0. Darko Lemajičs was the scorer. Emersons was the first to reach the corner kick, but his header was blocked by the keeper. Stefans Paničs regained one goal for the guests in the 22nd minute and “Riga” FC attacked more dangerously until the end of the half.

Five minutes after the break, Lemajičs scored his second goal in the game and strengthened RFS’s lead. “Riga” FC still managed to reduce the difference to the minimum at the end of the regular time – Vladimirs Kamešs was the exact attacker.

FK “Liepāja” on Wednesday won the Jūrmala “Spartaka” footballers 3: 1. In the 16th minute, the Liepāja team was nominated by Eduards Tīdenbergs, but Artūrs Karašausks doubled the winning position in the 59th minute. Five minutes before the end of the regular time, Valērijs Harbačiks achieved 3: 0, but already during the compensation, the prestigious goal for “Spartak” was scored by Leon Šipoš.

Review of FK “Liepāja” – “Spartaks” game

After the game, Karašauskas, who implemented a perfect penalty kick, told Latvijas Televīze in an interview that the Liepāja team has been showing good football for a month and is aware that they are fighting for qualifying for the Eurocups in the Latvian Cup tournament.

FC “Ventspils” continued after winning the trip over FC “Jelgava”. The regular time and extra time ended without a goal being scored, while in the 11-meter stroke series with 4: 3 Ventspils were superior.

“Valmiera” FC beat “Tukums 2000 / TSS” footballers 1: 0 at home. The victory goal was scored by Ēriks Punculs at the end of the match compensation period, ensuring the Valmiera team’s first participation in the history of the Latvian Cup semi-final.

Only the top league clubs were among the eight strongest participants in the Latvian Cup.

The draw for the semi-final pairs will take place on Friday, October 23. The final of the tournament is scheduled for November 8 in Ventspils.

Since 1936, the prestigious trophy in the Latvian Cup has been owned by 38 clubs. Since the restoration of the country’s independence, 12 different units have raised the cup over their heads. The current trophy holder RFS won the cup for the first time last year.

The winners of the Latvian Cup also guarantee the right to participate in the European League qualification at the international level.
