Renata Zarazúa wants to take advantage of the confidence she has obtained in her game this year, after reaching the semifinal of the Mexican Tennis Open and the second round of Roland Garros, to qualify now to the main draw of the Australian Open.

“My calendar doesn’t change much because because of the virus, there are not many tournaments left in November and December, maybe I play in two tournaments in the United States, since For me the most important thing is to prepare myself as best as possible to start the year in Australia, which is the first Grand Slam. This year it was a bit strange that you don’t have many things planned and they are last minute decisions, so I will try to train, to prepare for those two tournaments, and to do a good preparation for Australia ”, declared Zarazúa.

Zarazúa mentioned that reaching the semifinal of the Mexican Tennis Open gave him the confidence that he can face tennis players in the top 50.

“The preseason that I did in December and early January so that this was my year was key, since I had in my head that I had lived two or three years being in the 200 or 300 of the ranking, and I already wanted to take that leap and get out of those little tournaments to be in the bigger tournaments. Having a good start in Acapulco gave me a lot of confidence, just believing that I could play against top 50 players, and especially that game with Sloane Stephens gave me a lot of confidence, “he mentioned.

After the Acapulco tournament, Zarazúa dedicated himself to training in Florida to prepare for the Roland Garros qualification, where finally met his goal of entering the main draw. The Mexican in the first round beat the French Elsa Jacquemot by 6-1 and 6-2, while in the next stage she lost to the Ukrainian Elina Svitólina by 3.6, 6-0 and 6-2.

“Being 170 against five in the world, there are very little details that make the difference and I think that more than anything I realized that. The whole game was concentrated and after the match I reasoned a bit and realized the difference, there are very few details that I can adjust right now. In the consistency of the blows, a top 10 can have a high level for three sets, but in my case I have to be able to do it to continue winning matches like in a Grand Slam, where they don’t give you a chance and they don’t give you anything. So my goal is to keep improving every day and I know that at some point I will be achieving my goals, “said the Mexican tennis player.

Now with the performance of Roland Garros, and that will make her add important points in the ranking of the WTA, the Mexican if she sees as something possible to fight a qualification to the Tokyo 2021 Olympic Games.

“The classification is by ranking and it will be necessary to see if my ranking is enough to enter since they are the first 100 in the world, so I do not know how complicated it is and if I have good results at the beginning of the year I could achieve it,” he said.

Renata is excited by the idea of being considered for the 2020 National Sports Award.

“Hopefully that will happen since I have achieved many results that people did not expect and that is why it was a surprise, and it would be very cool,” he mentioned.

The tennis player is in Mérida where she continues with her training for the two tournaments in the United States that she is planning to participate in.
