Rain Makes Quartararo Fail on the Podium

Le Mans

Fabio Quartararo failed to reach the podium in the French MotoGP. Even so, he still felt satisfied because he managed to add points and get away from his opponents.

At the Bugatti Circuit, Le Mans, Sunday (11/10/2020), Quartararo is expected to win. Moreover, he won the pole position, which means he will start at the front.

But the reality is different on the track. The falling rain made it difficult for Quartararo to perform optimally. The Petronas Yamaha SRT racer was not used to racing on wet tracks.

As a result, his position continued to decline because he was overtaken by other riders, even dropping to 11th place.

Luckily, a number of crashes experienced by riders in front of him such as Jack Miller, Alex Rins, and Cal Crutchlow made his position move. He was also able to take advantage of the opportunity and finally finished in 9th position.

“Racing at Le Mans was my first experience on a wet track. But the results in the end were not very bad, especially when it comes to world title competition,” said Quartararo, quoted by GPOne.

“At the start of the race I had a little trouble with my rear tire, unlike Dovi (zioso) or Petrucci who were strong. In the early laps I tried to maintain my position, but after the ninth lap I really struggled with the grip of the bike.”

“I really suffered, especially when I came out of the corner. But what is important now is to learn to understand what just happened to prepare for the future,” he explained.

Quartararo currently leads the riders’ standings with 115 points from 9 races. He is 10 points ahead of Joan Mir (Suzuki) in second place and 18 points from Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati) who is in third.
