Qualifying F1 GP Emilia-Romagna – Start time, station and more

October 30, 2020 – For the third consecutive weekend, the Formula 1 bubble travels to a circuit that was not on the original calendar. After races at the Nürburgring and the Autodromo Nacional do Algarve in Portimao, the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix is now on the program at historic Imola. In this article you will find all the information about the starting time, where to view the qualification and more.

The story is now known: the corona pandemic forced Formula 1 owner Liberty Media to turn the calendar for the 2020 season upside down. Several circuits could not organize a race. That opened doors for jobs that weren’t on the original schedule. For example, they already drove at Mugello, the Nürburgring and in Portimao. This weekend, the historic Imola is on the program. Italian circulation was continuously on the calendar between 1980 and 2006. Outdated facilities and growing commercial interests made the popular circuit disappear from the calendar. This year they will return. To make things even more difficult for drivers and teams, the weekend will be finished in just two days. It was feared that the teams could not cover the distance between Portimao and Imola (about 2,500 kilometers) fast enough to come back into action on Friday. That is why the Friday practice sessions were canceled and the weekend starts on Saturday morning with a free practice of one and a half hours, followed by qualifying and race.

What time does qualifying for the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix start?

Date: Saturday October 31, 2020
Start Dutch time: 2 p.m.

Qualifying for the Formula 1 Grand Prix of Emilia-Romagna on the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari of Imola will start on Saturday 31 October 2020 at 2 p.m. Dutch time. Qualification takes about an hour under normal circumstances. The session consists of three segments of eighteen, fifteen and twelve minutes respectively. Qualifying sets the running order for the first F1 race at Imola circuit since 2006.

That’s how F1 qualifying works

Qualifying for a Formula 1 race is divided into three segments: Q1, Q2 and Q3. In the first part, all drivers come into action. They have eighteen minutes to set a fast time. After this time, the flag is waved and the ranking is based on the times driven. The five slowest riders will be eliminated: their lap times will determine the starting order for positions sixteen to twenty. After a short pause, the clock is reset and Q2 begins: a fifteen minute segment. The remaining drivers come into action and have to set a fast time again. At the end, another five riders are eliminated. Their times determine the starting order for positions eleven through fifteen. Then the ten remaining drivers go on a hunt for the fastest times in twelve minutes. At the end, the sequence for the entire starting grid is known.
