PSV presents world champion Götze: “Was ready for a new challenge” | Eredivisie

On the last day of the transfer market in the Netherlands, PSV brought another big name to the club: Mario Götze. The German gave his country the world title in 2014 by scoring the winning goal in the World Cup final against Argentina as a substitute in extra time.

At Borussia Dortmund he got a bit sidetracked last season. In June he silently said goodbye. He was therefore transfer-free and ultimately opted for the Dutch league. PSV coach Roger Schmidt was able to convince him in a few conversations.

“I had some pleasant conversations with Roger and I started thinking more and more seriously about a step to the Netherlands,” says Götze on the club website. I want to make the choices I want. I am ready for a completely different challenge and I found it here in Eindhoven. “

PSV is delighted with the multipurpose acquisition. “Ultimately, he has now become the great opportunity that we have continued to hope for. We are very proud that he has chosen PSV”, says technical manager John de Jong. “He can play on the attack, on the flanks or in the midfield. And of course he has a lot of experience.”

PSV is not the only club with a big name on the final day. Bruno Martins Indi returns to the premier league at AZ. The club has been able to release the 28-year-old defender on a rental basis at Stoke City.

Martins Indi went through the youth academy in his own country at Feyenoord, where he made his debut in the main force in 2012. In 2014, the defender moved to FC Porto, where he played 71 games. In 2016, the Portuguese club leased him to Stoke City, which took him over permanently a year later.

The 34-time international was an important force in the defense of the Dutch national team in 2014, which finished third at the World Cup in Brazil under the leadership of national coach Louis van Gaal.
