Player ratings: Manchester United 5-0 RB Leipzig

David de Gea: 6/10

What do you want here? Higher? He made the two saves (if so) that he had to make, but overall he really didn’t have much to do. 7? 8th? 10? Come on.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka: 8/10

Wan-Bissaka was … Wan-Bissaka. Took care of his flank and made no threats. A seven seems too low because the reason he didn’t stand out is because we got so used to these feats from him.

Victor Lindelöf: 8/10

Didn’t give Leipzig anything. Exceptional for tactical fouls near midfield to fend off potential counterattacks before they start.

Harry Maguire: 8/10

Boy, he sure turned around after that red card for England right?

Luke Shaw: 8/10

Busy on the left, up and down. You think the arrival of Telles changed its shape? Shaw’s crosses in the first half were basically all of United’s creativity. They weren’t good crosses, but they were dangerous than he usually provides.

Fred: 10/10

Fred’s busy play of clogging the center and getting far out on the wing is key to making the diamond work. His death was in the first half a little off but overall he was fantastic.

Nemanja Matic: 9/10

Brings a stability to midfield that nobody else does. His ability to read the game is exceptional.

Paul Pogba: 8/10

Started in his preferred center left of midfield and was back to his usual self. Rightly rewarded with support.

Donny van de Beek: 7/10

Off the Ball Work Rate has been fantastic in the leading United press. A little too passive on the ball, constantly looking backwards.

Anthony Martial: 6/10

Didn’t offer much in the first hour of the game. After Bruno’s arrival, he suddenly became extremely dangerous. Made the extra pass in the pits a couple of times too often but won a penalty and missed the mark.

Mason Greenwood: 6/10

His goal on the first goal showed why you want him on the team. Everything else he did (or didn’t do) showed why he’s not there every week. No outlet could be provided when the press broke. When he got the ball he would often square or backwards … straight back to the Leipzig press, which made it extremely difficult for United to keep the ball and forced them to spend most of the first half of the defense.

Scott McTominay: 9/10

Was even better tonight than last week against PSG. On the ball, he looked like the McTominay from the last 20 minutes of the Newcastle game. Let’s see more of this McTominay.

Marcus Rashford: 10/10

Came off the bench and scored a hat trick. Would like more? Well, he also feeds children across the UK.

Bruno Fernandes: 9/10

His arrival turned United from control of the game into an attack on the game. United are good when Bruno is on the field. You’re good when Pogba is on the pitch. You are on a different level with both of you on the field.

Axel Tuanzebe: N / A

Wan-Bissaka’s legs were rescued for 10 minutes. I’ve got a good run and hope to see him against Arsenal.

Edinson Cavani: N / A

Had a good work rate but wasn’t very dedicated. Good ending for a goal but offside, although in fairness he never had a chance to be offside.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer: 9/10

All the conversations about Julien Nagglesman as one of the best young managers in Europe and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer showed him respect by treating him the same as he treats Pep Guardiola. By beating his ass. Tactically United was brilliant and completely neutralized all threats to Leipzig. When a mid-attack failed, Nagglesman didn’t have a backup plan. Ole again changed the match with his submarines and this time ran away with it.

After a 6-1 defeat, Ole had a tough job ahead of him. He responded by strengthening the defense (only conceding goals) and winning three out of four. He gave this team some depth and turned the squad well tonight, which brought him very fresh players for Arsenal on Sunday.
