“No chance” Mesut Ozil will play for Arsenal again, says Kevin Campbell: “He’s yesterday’s news.”

Mesut Ozil will never play for Arsenal again, believes ex-shooter Kevin Campbell, who insists the midfielder is “yesterday’s news” at the club.

The German remains frozen in north London after having stopped playing since the 2019-20 Premier League restart and was recently removed from Mikel Arteta’s Europa League squad.

Although Arsenal are keen to develop Ozil, the 32-year-old remains determined to look into his contract, which won’t expire until next summer.

Campbell believes there have been cases of Ozil “taking action” against the club and believes there is no turning back for the midfielder, whom Arsene Wenger recently touted as a “super talent”.

“Mesut Ozil is the news at the club yesterday,” Campbell told GentingBet. “There’s no chance he will play for Arsenal again this season or ever.

“There were certain things that happened, cases where he took action against the club, so I don’t see where there is room for him to come back.”

Arteta explained on Thursday why Ozil was banned from his Europa League squad and insisted that an uncomfortable decision had to be made.

“It’s a very difficult decision for me because it’s very difficult to get players out of the squad at this level where they know they can’t interfere,” he told reporters.

“I don’t like it at all, but the decision had to be made because we have a surplus of foreign players. Unfortunately we had to make that decision.”
