NBA – Nowitzki on Nash offer: “It tingled a bit”

Cologne (SID) – Germany’s basketball idol Dirk Nowitzki (42) recently rejected the offer to become the assistant coach of his former teammate Steve Nash at the Brooklyn Nets from the North American professional league NBA. But the call did not leave the Würzburger cold. “When Steve asked me if I wanted to, it was tingling a bit,” Nowitzki told DAZN and Spox.

So far Nowitzki has no plans in this direction. “The timing wasn’t right at all, I’m only a year and a half out and it’s a lot of fun with my family and the kids right now,” said the 2011 NBA champion, who ended his career in 2019 after 21 years with the Dallas Mavericks .

That could change in the future. “If I’ve got a few years behind, that would interest me. In which role is pretty open,” says Nowitzki: “I’ve always said that I don’t actually have the mentality of a coach, but I let myself have that Door open.”

Basically, he is “coping well with being retired. I was just ready for retirement and was looking forward to the time after that,” said Nowitzki, “he tried to gain some distance. Give me another year or two, then I’ll miss it a little more. ”
