Virtual Valencia Boat Show, the first 100% virtual boat show in the world, has dedicated the morning of its second day to sustainable boating together with Turisme Comunitat Valenciana: a set of conferences and presentations, where issues related to the good nautical practices that are so important today in the sector.

Francesc Colomer, Regional Secretary for Tourism of the Generalitat Valenciana, stated that “nautical tourism is a fundamental investment for the future”. Colomer has been pleased that the Virtual VBS celebration has been carried out in this pioneering format, because it is “a reinforcement of the Turisme CV brand and works to stimulate nautical culture”. The tables, coordinated by Turisme CV’s nautical tourism promotion technique, Esther Valero, dealt with the dynamizing role of nautical tourism for the economy, its relationship with the conservation of the coastline and sustainable nautical activities.

The tables had the participation of Gabriel Martínez, president of the Spanish Federation of Sports and Tourist Port Associations; Albert Bertrán, president of the Catalan Association of Ports Esportius i Turistics ACPET, Arturo Sáez, secretary of the Spanish Federation of Sports and Tourist Port Associations, as well as technicians and experts in environmental management such as Eduardo Mínguez, technician in Management of Protected Spaces of the General Directorate of Natural Resources of the GVA, César Bordehore or Mathieu Thèvenet, as well as Genís Dalmau, president of the Spanish Federation of Diving Centers and Isabel Teruel, vice president of ANADE, the Association of Nautical Facilities of the Balearic Islands.

The participants have agreed on the rapid growth of nautical tourism in a few years, even despite the pandemic, a period in which it has demonstrated its capacity for resistance and sustainability, since it has even been able to generate stable and quality employment . Likewise, it has been described as a catalyst for real estate investment -the marinas generate nearby tourist developments-, and its ability to become centers for shipbuilding.

One of the specialists, César Bordehore, has put forward a hypothesis that shows that marine protected areas are a win-win option for both sport fishing and nautical tourism. In a dramatic scenario in which more than 50% of the marine fisheries are being overexploited, the creation of marine biomass reserves is an investment that can multiply the benefits of the area by ten or twenty in just four years. Thus, the better conserved the marine environment, the greater its tourist attraction.

The last table, which focused on the importance of diving as a tourist activity, the participants agreed that marine conservation is linked to the success of the diving product among customers, for which public-private collaboration is essential.

Powerful presence of the professional candle

Virtual VBS has managed to bring together professionals from various fields of the nautical and sailing world: sailors, photographers, businessmen, clubs and marinas have not wanted to miss this virtual event. This afternoon it is the turn of the race organizers, who will share their experiences in a talk with the presence of Manu Fraga, RCN Palma sports director, Álvaro Irala, director and captain of Puerto Portals, and Agustín Zulueta, CEO of 52 Super Series.

Subsequently, Juan Messeguer, designer of the North Sails sail shop, will give a talk by València World Capital of Design 2022, after which the second session of the XVIII Congress Homologated Sailing Schools CV of the Valencian Community Sailing Federation will begin .

Lovers of nautical cinema will have the opportunity tonight to enjoy the first screening of The Weekend Sailor, a documentary by Bernardo Arsuaga that narrates the adventure of Ramón Carlín, an amateur sailor who won the first edition of the Whitbread Round The World Yacht Race.
