Nadia Podoroska in El Tres: “I always worked and trained but this caught me by surprise”

The tennis player Rosario Nadia Podoroska, one of the Argentine sports revelations of the year, is going through happy but intense days in Spain, where he settled because his coaches live there. And this Monday he shared his great moment in a exclusive interview with Alberto Lotuf for Telenoche (Three).

La Rusa, as they say because of the origin of her surname, said that she did not expect such an early consolidation in the professional circuit, after reaching Roland Garros semi-finals. “At this moment I did not imagine it. Obviously that This is what I have always worked and trained for. But it got me a little bit of a surprise”, He acknowledged.

From Alicante, the 23-year-old said: “My life is still the same as before, that’s the good thing, what keeps me focused and calm. Obviously I’m going to start playing other tournaments after what happened at Roland Garros, but it is only that ”.

In addition to the sports award, the economic one is a great boost to follow. “What we Latinas have is that everything becomes more complicated for us. It takes a lot of money to travel, train, be at the best level. Those are advantages that Europeans have with respect to us ”, he compared.

“It’s about $ 100,000 a year to insert you into the circuit,” he explained, “to play about 30 tournaments per season. This year I have only one tournament to play. And 2021 is still very uncertain, but I hope to at least be able to play about 20 tournaments ”.

On his success in 2020, he analyzed: “I think are several factors. The mental of course, and try to live it in a natural way. Entering the field and not being satisfied, focusing only on the game, was vital.

In that sense, he explained: “Just as I have a tennis coach and a physical (trainer), I also I have a mental coach. It has helped me to know myself very well and to manage my emotions. He is an Argentine who lives in Qatar, we are in virtual contact ”.

He also said: “During the tournament (the Parisian Grand Slam) I did not look at (social) networks, not even WhatsApp, but once I finished competing I saw all those messages of support and the truth that it was something unique”.

Describing himself as an athlete, Podoroska says: “My virtue is the commitment to do what I do, I always put everything. And flaws, I think self-demand, which throughout my career has played a bit against me ”.

He also noted that within the circuit does not have “a particular reference” but that he admires Simona Haley, Romanian player who currently occupies the number 2 position of the WTA. “Of the players from before, the one I liked the most was Justin Annan,” he said about his sports mirrors.

The breadwinner and the desire to return to Rosario

Nadia confirmed what everyone already knows: “Tennis is a very lonely sport”, She admitted and in that sense added:“ I spend many weeks alone with the team, with my coach. It’s the big difference from a team sport. “

The affections, the family, the loved ones, are always close, beyond the hectic life that I lead “, he clarified and about a possible romance he warned:” Currently I am not in a relationship, but when it happens I would like to.

He is excited to return to his city soon: “I want to return to Rosario, I would like to share a few days with my family, but with this virus it is all an uncertainty. For now my family is enjoying it with me ”.

And finally, he highlighted the doors that open to him from his career on the rise: “Fortunately, several sponsors have approached.”
