Mercato: Rennes spent a lot, Nice more measured

Among the ambitious teams in Ligue 1, Stade Rennais was very active during the transfer window, with around 71 million euros in expenses for 48 million euros in sales. The Breton club has notably carried out three important operations: the transfer of goalkeeper Edouard Mendy to Chelsea against 24 million euros, i.e. the third sale of Ligue 1 during this transfer window, and the transfer of striker Raphinha to Leeds against 17 million euros. In the purchasing department, the 3rd in Ligue 1 last season paid 27 million euros for the young Anderlecht striker, Jérémy Doku, 18 years old.

For the rest, the club which is playing in the Champions League this season for the first time has strengthened according to its needs. In goals, Alfred Gomis arrived from Dijon to take over from his compatriot Edouard Mendy, against 10 million euros. In defense, Rennes has signed three players. Two axial: the Moroccan Nayef Aguerd (Dijon, 4 million euros) and the Italian Daniele Rugani (Juventus, 1.5 million euros), as well as a left side, the Brazilian Dalbert (Inter Milan, 2, 5 million euros).

In the offensive sector, Julien Stéphan’s team had been ready for several weeks with the recruitment of Serhou Guirassy (Amiens, 15 million euros) and Martin Terrier (Lyon, 12 million euros). He ended his market with an “extra”, by hiring the young Belgian international with great potential Doku.

Proof of the Bretons’ ambition, this attempt on Monday evening revealed by Ouest-France to bring back Ismaïla Sarr, 22, transferred to Watford (relegated from the Premier League) against 30 million euros in the summer of 2019. Attempt remained vain, the Senegalese international being very much courted in England, where the transfer window still runs until October 16, by Manchester United in particular.

In Nice, interesting reinforcements

Active but much more measured than Rennes, Nice, 5th in the last Ligue 1 financial year, stood out by obtaining in extremis from OL the loan for the season from promising midfielder Jeff Reine-Adélaïde, 22 years old – matched loan a purchase option set at 25 million euros.

Previously, the Aiglons had recorded some interesting reinforcements: Morgan Schneiderlin (Everton, 2.2 million euros) in the middle; the Brazilian Robson Bambu (Paranaense, 8 million euros), Jordan Lotomba (Young Boys, 6 million euros) and Hassane Kamara (Reims, 4 million euros) in defense; Amine Gouiri (Lyon, 7 million euros) and Rony Lopes (Sevilla FC, loan) in attack.
