Ligue 1: difficult return to earth for Rennes

Rennes did not digest well after the Champions League. Three days after its baptism of fire in the most prestigious European competition and if one draws at Roazhon Park against the Russians of Krasnodar (1-1), Julian Stephan’s team was surprised at home by Angers (1-2).

Third in the standings behind Lille and PSG, before this advanced match of the 8th day of L1, Rennes had the opportunity to temporarily seize the chair of the leader.

It all started well with the opening scoring of Adrien Hunou who took advantage of a ball released by Paul Bernadoni on a recovery from Tait (1-0, 18th).

But on a shot deflected by Da Silva of Samuel Boufal, who signs his return to Angers, his team quickly equalizes (1-1, 27th).

Blunted by his Champions League match even if Stephan turned, Rennes, where Belgian rookie Jérémy Doku (€ 25 million) is the holder for the first time, logically concedes a second goal in the second period. After a stop by Gomis (43rd) against Bahoken, Angelo Fulgini sealed the deserved victory of Angers (1-2, 59th).

Rennes suffered a little setback after a rather promising start to the season. The central Da Silva – Aguerd hinge was often feverish in the face of the untenable Bahoken, Boufal, Fulgini or Cabot.

Angers succeeded him a big blow by inflicting on Rennes its first defeat of the season and goes up to 6th place. The Bretons will travel to Seville on Wednesday for their second Champions League match.
