Leipzig and Leeds argue about the French striker who has a crib at Nantes | Ligue 1

Jean-Kévin Augustin moved to Leipzig for 16 million euros in 2017, which the Frenchman leased to Leeds United at the beginning of this year. Leeds, then still in the English 2nd class, was not impressed by Augustin, who was passed on with an unsatisfactory mark.

But that was not to Leipzig’s liking. According to the Germans, there was a clause in the lease that stipulated that Leeds was obliged to take over Augustin permanently for 21 million euros if it were to be promoted.

That clause is again contested by Leeds, because Augustin’s lease expired on June 30 and the club – due to the corona break – only secured promotion to the Premier League after that date.

The matter is currently in the hands of FIFA, but that has not stopped Jean-Kévin Augustin from signing a contract with Nantes in the meantime. The number 16 in the Ligue 1 regards the attacker as a free agent.

Augustin has signed a contract for 2 seasons with the team of Renaud Emond and Anthony Limbombe. It remains to be seen whether the dispute between Leeds and Leipzig gets a tail end.
