Als voornaamste schuldeiser houdt Penninckx immers nog een belangrijke stok achter de deur, zo weet HNB: “Als de club zijn ­licentie voor volgend ­seizoen wil krijgen, dan ­hebben ze immers een handtekening nodig van de hoofdaandeelhouder met de ­garantie dat hij het bedrag dat de club hem verschuldigd is (ongeveer 7 miljoen euro) niet zal opeisen ­tijdens het seizoen 2021-2022.”

Geen licentie zou betekenen dat KV Mechelen naar de amateurreeksen moet degraderen. Daar wil men in het Mechelse uiteraard niet aan denken.
