Ajax will travel to Bergamo without Klaas-Jan Huntelaar on Monday for the Champions League match with Atalanta on Tuesday evening. Eighteen-year-old Brian Brobbey replaces the experienced striker in the selection.
The 37-year-old Huntelaar participated as a substitute for twenty minutes on Saturday in the record duel with VVV-Venlo (0-13) and scored two goals. Ajax does not report why the attacker is absent.
Antony and Jong Ajax striker Brobbey can make their Champions League debut against Atalanta. Purchase Antony is a basic player this season, but was unable to participate in the first group match with Liverpool last week (0-1 defeat). On Saturday, the Brazilian was again at the kick-off against VVV.
Trainer Erik ten Hag has selected a total of twenty players for the important match in Italy. Actually, Ajax cannot afford another defeat to keep an eye on the knockout phase.
Atalanta has to do without Marten de Roon, who sustained a groin injury in the league match with Sampdoria (1-3 defeat) on Saturday and was eliminated for several weeks. The other two Dutchmen, Hans Hateboer and Sam Lammers, are available.
The team of trainer Gian Piero Gasperini started the Champions League last week with a 0-4 victory over the Danish FC Midtjylland. Atalanta-Ajax starts on Tuesday at 9 p.m. and is led by the experienced Slovenian referee Damir Skomina.
