After an indisputable first half, Real Madrid lost at home to Shakhtar Donetsk at the start of the Champions League. National player Toni Kroos cannot prevent the disaster. He sits on the bench for 70 minutes.
THEWithout Toni Kroos in the starting line-up, Real Madrid made an embarrassing false start in the Champions League. The team of coach Zinédine Zidane lost on Wednesday after a poor defensive performance and indisputable first half at home with 2: 3 (0: 3) against Shakhtar Donetsk. Zidane did without the ailing captain Sergio Ramos, stars like Kroos and Karim Benzema only sat on the bench at the beginning.
Tetè (29th minute), Raphael Varane (32nd / own goal) and Manor Solomon (42nd) ensured the Ukrainian football champions’ surprisingly high lead at halftime. The third goal was particularly well played: Tetè put the heel on for Solomon, who turned with a deliberate shot.
Kroos 70 minutes on the bench
The goals from Luka Modric (54th) and Vinicius Junior (59th) were too few for the Madrilenians, where ex-world champion Kroos only came into the game after 70 minutes.

The alleged equalization of Real in stoppage time was revoked because of offside after video evidence review. Last Saturday Madrid had already conceded a home defeat in the Spanish league with 0-1 against FC Cadiz.
In the group of defending champions FC Bayern Munich, RB Salzburg and Lokomotiv Moscow parted 2: 2 (1: 1). Dominik Szoboszlai (45th) and ex-Bundesliga player Zlatko Junuzovic (50th) turned the lead for the guests by Eder (19th). Vitaly Lisakowitsch (75th) made the final score.
