This Sunday, the one who embodies the next generation of French tennis had successfully entered the tournament by easily beating Belarusian Evialina Laskevich in straight sets 6-4, 6-3.
It’s really nice because it’s my first time playing in a junior grand slam. Skipping the first round is great. I hope I will continue like this.
At 16, Océane Babel is participating for the first time in a grand slam tournament and her coach does not hide her ambition for her young protégé. “It’s important that she plays well, but it’s not the most important. The goal is the senior tournament”, affirmed Noëlle Van Lottum at the end of the 1st round which sees in the junior tournament “a preparation” for the senior tournament.

Océane Babel started tennis at the age of five. She is licensed at the Sarcelles club (Seine-Saint-Denis) and was crowned 13-year-old French Champion in 2017, before joining the National Training Center (CNE) of the French tennis federation in September 2018.
