FC Bayern: Game against Atlético still on the brink

After Serge Gnabry’s positive corona test, FC Bayern must present the negative tests of those professionals who are supposed to play against Atlético Madrid in the evening’s Champions League match by 3 p.m.

“The teams and people tested must ensure that UEFA receives timely access to the individualized negative test results,” the European Football Union stipulates in its Corona protocol, which is authoritative for the European Cup. The results must be available “at least six hours before kick-off time (local time on the day of the match)”.

The Munich record champions made the Corona case of national player Gnabry public on Tuesday evening. Gnabry had previously participated in team training.

FC Bayern announced that all professionals will be tested again. If there are at least 13 players available (including at least one goalkeeper), the game will be played. This would be prevented, for example, by ordering a quarantine for the entire team by the authorities.

FC Bayern must adhere to strict rules

However, the UEFA rules, like those of the German Football League, stipulate for Bundesliga matches that contact between the professionals should be as short as possible before the games.

“In order to minimize the impact of a positive test by a player or a member of the support staff, every team must implement a strict contact tracing program for the members of their testing pool,” says UEFA.

“As part of this program, the contacts between people within the group must be precisely recorded, for example the seats on air / bus trips, while eating or contact during training, in medical care or in the social area.”

Munich Department for Health and Environment does not comment

The Munich Department for Health and Environment does not comment on the corona case Gnabry for data protection reasons. This was announced by a spokesman for the authority at the request of the “German Press Agency”.

The spokesman pointed out that there was no public comment on comparable cases and referred to FC Bayern.

When it comes to the question of whether other actors might have to be in quarantine, according to the Robert Koch Institute, it is generally decisive whether they are classified as Category I contact persons with a higher risk of infection than the so-called source case. Among other things, the focus here is on the tightness of contact and the concentration of virus particles.
