F1, Ferrari: Leclerc and Vettel agree: “A disaster”

The road to rebirth is still long for Ferrari, which after an encouraging Saturday at Sunday Nurburgring went through another very disappointing race. Charles Leclerc, who started fourth, sonly in seventh place: the Monegasque was expecting something better, especially in the early part of the match.

“We have seen many times since the beginning of the year that with little fuel in qualifying on the flying lap we are able to get the most out of the car, but every time we put in a lot of fuel, we struggle more This is what happened today. With the medium we had a positive pace, but on the soft we had graining right away. On this side it was a bit of a disaster“.

“But the second part of the race was quite positive. On the occasion of the Safety Car I didn’t want to take the risk of putting on the soft ones given the effort I made at the start of the race. Self did we delude ourselves yesterday? I think so, I expected a little more. Once again, however, the problem was the first stint, then the others went better ”.

Sebastian Vettel, who finished eleventh, looks with skepticism at the latest updates: “Hard to say if they helped. I don’t think it was what we expected and we haven’t seen much on the track. We lost positions in the race and we didn’t have the pace we wanted ”.

The analysis of the race for the German: “The start was not bad, even in the first lap, when I had medium tires and a compound at a disadvantage compared to the others. We lost another position with Alfa Romeo and we were stuck, it was very difficult for us. We have taken many risks, perhaps too many. After that it was difficult to reassemble. With the Safety Car there was a chance to get back in the points but I didn’t make it ”.

On the mistake: “As mentioned, we only made money in the last part of the straight. When I was getting close to Giovinazzi I lost my car and I don’t understand how. I probably took too high a risk at that time ”.
