Ex-Brazil coach Scolari comes to the rescue of ailing second division Cruzeiro | Foreign football

Former Brazilian coach Luiz Felipe Scolari is the new coach of the ailing Brazilian second division team Cruzeiro. Felipao signed a contract with the club from Belo Horizonte until the end of 2022.

Cruzeiro became Brazilian national champion for the second year in a row in 2014, after which the club went into free fall. The relegation followed last year, they are currently in second to last place in the 2nd class. Scolari coached Cruzeiro earlier in the 2000-2001 season.

71-year-old Scolari was without a club for more than a year, after he was kicked out of Palmeiras in September 2019. A year earlier he had celebrated the title with the club.

He worked 3 times at Palmeiras. He was also national coach of Brazil twice (2001-2002 and 2012-2014) and once of Portugal (2003-2008). He also coached Chelsea (2008-2009).

In 2002 he guided the Brazilians to their 5th and for the time being the last world title. In the final they then beat Germany 2-0. In 2014, the Germans took a rattling revenge by giving the host country a 1-7 pando in the semi-finals.
