Djokovic reached Sampras’ record, will exceed 300 weeks and is close to Federer

Pure history. The victory this Wednesday against Borna Coric by 7-6 (11) and 6-3 in the ATP 500 in Vienna meant Novak Djokovic close 2020 as No. 1 in the world and thus equal the six seasons in which he achieved it Pete Sampras. Also, it gets close to Roger Federer’s number …

Gone are Rafael Nadal (209), Jimmy Connors (268), Ivan Lendl (270) and Djokovic idol Pete Sampras (286). Djokovic surpassed them all in the past and now only one is missing.

Currently Djokovic has been the best racket in the world for 292 weeks and will, at least, cross the 300 line. To become the ultimate king, Djokovic will have to remain firm up without interruptions and will achieve the feat on Monday, March 8, 2021. That day, the Serbian, if he is not displaced before by the Spanish Rafael Nadal, will reach 311 weeks. A week earlier, of course, he would match Federer.

Mathematically, all this can only be avoided by Nadal, if he accepts the invitation in Sofia and wins the Paris Masters 1000, the Bulgarian ATP 250 and the London ATP Finals.
