Djokovic becomes Roland Garros record holder, reaching quarter-finals for 11 years in a row

The first number of the tournament on Monday with 6-4, 6-3, 6-3 convincingly won the Russian Karen Hachanov (16th ATP), who was awarded the 15th number.

Djokovic spent less than two and a half hours in a rainy Paris court against Hachanov. Serbs won his last trophy in the French Open in 2016.

In the quarterfinals, he will have to compete with Spaniard Pavlo Kareno Bust (ATP 18th), with whom he also met in the quarterfinals at the US Open, when the referee was disqualified from the competition for hitting the ball.

In the eighth final of the tournament, Busts won the German Daniel Altmaier (ATP 186) 6-2, 7-5, 6-2 in the eighth final, who previously overcame the qualifying tournament, but later also unexpectedly won the Italian Mateo Beretini.

Russian tennis player Andrei Rublev (12th), who was awarded the 13th number, also reached the quarterfinals in a slightly longer fight. He defeated Mārton Fučovič (63rd) from Hungary with 6-7 (4: 7), 7-5, 6-4, 7-6 (7: 3).

In the quarter-finals, Rubļevs will meet the Greek Stefan Cicip (6th) in the fifth number of the competition, who with 6-3, 7-6 (11: 9), 6-2 proved to be superior to the Bulgarian Grigory Dimitrov (20th). The Bulgarian tennis player was ranked 18th in the tournament.

Last year’s finalists Rafael Nadal from Spain and Austrian Dominik Tim will continue on Tuesday. Clay King Nadal will meet with Italian Janik Siner (75th), while Tim will look to defeat Diego Schwarzman of Argentina (14th), who has been awarded the 12th number.

The Roland Garros tournament was due to take place this year from May 25 to June 7, but in mid-March it was moved to autumn and is the last Grand Slam of the season. Roger Federer from Switzerland, the fourth number in the tournament, is not participating in the tournament this year.

Meanwhile, Czech tennis player Petra Kvitova reached the quarterfinals of the French Open in a convincing victory on Monday.

Chinese athletes Shuui Zhang (40th) won the 11th ranking and the seventh number of the tournament in the 8th final of Kvitov with 6-2, 6-4.

Significantly, Kvitova is only one of four athletes who continue to fight in the French Open.

Kvitova has not lost a set in Paris so far. Also in 2017, the tournament in Paris for Kvitova was the first after a knife attack at home a year earlier. In the incident, she injured her arm.

“When I returned to the courts of this tournament in 2017, I don’t think I will be able to reach the quarterfinals in the Grand Slam,” said Kvitova, who will play in the French Open quarterfinals for the first time since 2012.

Eight years ago, she gave way to the famous Maria Sharapova in the semifinals, who later also celebrated the victory in the tournament.

In the quarterfinals, Kvitova will meet with Laura Sīgemunda from Germany (66). She defeated Spaniard Paul Bados Hiberta (87) with 7-5, 6-4, who had previously defeated Alona Ostapenko.

The winner of the Australian Open Championship, Sofia Kenina (6th), who was awarded the fourth number, also reached the quarterfinals, as she won 2-6, 6-2, 6-1 with her host Fiona Fero (49th).

Kenina will clear his opponent on Tuesday as Tunisian spokesman Onsa Zaber and American Daniel Collins could not play due to rain.

In the women’s competition in the French Open Championship this season, the first number of the rank from Australia Ashley Barthy, the new “US Open” champion Naomi Osaka from Japan, as well as the talented Canadian Bianka Andresco will not start.

The Roland Garros tournament was due to take place this year from May 25 to June 7, but in mid-March it was moved to autumn and is the last Grand Slam of the season.

The tournament takes place on clay.
