The team of “Optibet” hockey league (OHL) “Zemgale” / LLU, in which several people have previously been diagnosed with Covid-19, has resumed training this week in incomplete composition, Latvian Radio director Aivars Zeltiņš opened.
It has already been reported that two cases of Covid-19 have been detected in the Latvian “Optibet” hockey league unit “Zemgale” / LLU. The team did not find out which people were diagnosed with the virus, but two days later the training classes at Jelgava Ice Sports School were stopped.
In a conversation with Latvijas Radio Zeltiņš, he revealed that the team has performed repeated Covid-19 tests last weekend. For some people, the tests still show a positive result, so the training will be incomplete.
After the first positive tests of Covid-19, the team was quarantined until October 23.
Due to the spread of Covid-19, the “Zemgalians” did not play a game against “Mogo” / LSPA more than two weeks ago, but were later forced to miss four matches, in which they were scheduled to meet with the Hockey School “Riga”, “Liepaja”, “Olimp” / ” Venta 2002 ”and“ Prizma ”/ IHS.
The next game in the competition calendar “Zemgale” / LLU is planned in two days against Daugavpils “Dinaburga”, where due to the spread of Covid-19, quarantine was previously determined in September.
“Dinaburg” returned to the square on Saturday and gave up 2: 3 “Olimp” / “Venta 2002”.
Leading the tournament table with 19 points in 11 matches is “Olimp” / ”Venta 2002”, followed by “Liepāja” with 15 points in 11 due events. The leading three with 12 points in nine matches is concluded by “Mogo” / LSPA, followed by “Zemgale” / LLU with ten points in six dues. Hockey school “Riga” has scored six points in nine games, “Prizmai” / IHS is three less, while Daugavpils “Dinaburga” has been in five matches in five matches.
In the 2020/2021 season OHL plays “Mogo” / LSPA, “Olimp” / ”Venta 2002”, “Zemgale” / LLU, Hockey school “Riga”, Daugavpils “Dinaburga”, “Prizma” / IHS and “Liepājas” .
Last season, eight teams played in the Latvian Super League, but in the 2020/21 season there will be one team less, because “Kurbads” will not play in the tournament.
Last season, the playoffs were not played, but the winner of the local championship was declared “Olimp”. The newcomer to the tournament won the decisive points after “Riga” did not come to the last match of the season with the “Kurbads” team.
With its success, the Olympics earned the OHL the opportunity to compete in the Continental Cup organized by the International Hockey Federation (IIHF), but the international competition was canceled.
