Dak Prescott could have the franchise tag by 2021

For all the people who watched the Cowboys-Giants game in Week 5, it’s going to be very difficult to erase the image of Prescott’s injury. However, the solidarity of locals and strangers could also be seen as the Dallas Marshal left the field of play to go directly to the hospital.

Regarding this situation, we have a lot of news. Including its contractual situation, which everything seems to indicate that it will remain as it was this year.

At the moment, Dak would play this 2020 with the exclusive franchise label, which would be paying him 31.4 million dollars. However, everything seems to indicate that the organization will use the label again for 2021. According to journalist Jason La Canfora, who assures that it is information from different sources close to the situation.

So if this happens, we are talking about the quarterback would have $ 37.7 million for the 2021 campaign. Either way, the highest number of times this can be done on a player is three times, otherwise reach a long-term agreement. Sadly, this is what happened to Prescott this year. Both his agent and the organization did not reach an agreement and the tag had to be used to keep the player on the team.

Again we return to a stage of assumptions where much will depend on the recovery of the Marshal after his fracture this year. You have to see the progress of it and the point at which the player could return to the field.

Regarding the operation on his fracture, everything has gone wonderfully well for the QB. The initial procedure went as expected and so far during the postoperative process no infection has developed in the area.

According to all the information that is handled, the quarterback would be returning for the beginning of the next season. Of course, if no complications occur during the recovery process.

Of course, there are many factors to consider. Since recovery, extension and franchise etiquette all go hand in hand. In all possible scenarios, if the organization labels Prescott for 2021, it is clear that they have to assess the salary cap. Especially if after the effects of the pandemic it is lowered considerably. Likewise, a contract extension cannot be reached if there are no improvements in Prescott’s game after surgery, or if the player does not perform in the same way as before the injury.

To all of these, there may also be a situation where Prescott goes on strike and decides not to participate in organized activities or the offseason. Even in the preseason, something similar to what Ezekiel Elliott did before starting the 2019 campaign.

At the moment, they are all scenarios to be evaluated and everything has progressed positively. In fact, Dak is undergoing daily Covid-19 tests to stay at the facility for the remainder of the year. Helping the team as much as he can, including Andy Dalton, who will be the Cowboys’ starting quarterback for the remainder of the season.

Before the injury, Prescott finished with 1,856 passing yards as well as nine touchdowns. On the ground, he finished with 93 yards and three more touchdowns. Unfortunately, these will be the numbers with which the QB will remain for this 2020.

Right now, you have to see Dak’s progression in these months to come and focus the team on getting more victories. And that includes beating the Cardinals at home for Week 6.
