Cruijff, Bergkamp, Van Basten and Robben nominated for best team ever | NOW

Johan Cruijff, Dennis Bergkamp, Marco van Basten and Arjen Robben have a chance of winning a place in the best team of all time. The Dutch are by the French magazine France Football nominated for the prestigious election.

Cruijff, Bergkamp and Van Basten are among the ten nominees for the central attackers. The other seven contenders are Kenny Dalglish, Eusébio, Sándor Kocsis, Gerd Müller, Romário, Ronaldo and George Weah.

The 36-year-old Robben has fierce competition in the right winger, because Lionel Messi, Luís Figo, Samuel Eto’o, George Best, Garrincha and David Beckham have also been nominated. Robben (FC Groningen) and Messi (FC Barcelona) are the only active players.

In the left winger there are no Dutch people who have a chance of a place in the best team. The nominees include Thierry Henry, Cristiano Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Rivaldo and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. Ronaldo and Messi can therefore end up in the team together.

Twelve Dutch have a chance of being in the best team

A total of twelve Dutch people have been nominated: Edwin van der Sar, Wim Suurbier, Ronald Koeman, Ruud Krol, Johan Neeskens, Frank Rijkaard, Clarence Seedorf, Ruud Gullit and thus Cruijff, Van Basten, Bergkamp and Robben.

The election of the best team ever is an alternative to the Golden Ball election, that France Football normally organizes. The French magazine is of the opinion that due to the corona crisis, no representative picture of the best football players of 2020 can be sketched and therefore decided not to award a Golden Ball this year.

The best team of all time will be revealed in December. A total of 170 journalists will determine which players will join the team. Fans can also vote on the site of France Football.
