City wants to save Club and Cercle stadium plans: “We adjust plans” | Jupiler Pro League

On Tuesday, the Council of State had placed a bomb under the stadium file in Bruges. The spatial plans for the construction of a new stadium for Cercle Bruges and of industrial estates on the Blankenbergse Steenweg were destroyed.

As a result, the stadium plans of both Bruges football clubs were jeopardized. Flemish Minister of the Environment Zuhal Demir wanted to find a solution as quickly as possible and therefore a consultation took place on Friday.

Demir sat around the table with the mayor of Bruges, Dirk De fauw, and the chairmen of Club and Cercle Bruges, Bart Verhaeghe and Vincent Goemaere. After consultation it was decided to remedy with the Flemish government. The spatial implementation plan will be adjusted for this.

“We will adjust the points raised by the Council of State to destroy the file”, says Mayor De fauw.

For example, the car park was too large according to the Council of State. “Since only Cercle will play football there, fewer parking spaces will be needed. We will also provide multi-layer parking.”

Careless use of space was also a major stumbling block. “We have decided to only place the practice fields of Cercle on the Blankenbergse Steenweg. We are looking for a different solution for the practice fields of Club Brugge, possibly at existing sports centers in the city.”

Next week, the Flemish government will adopt the remedial decision. “If no one appeals, the plans could go ahead and we can finally close the stadium file.” That will be music to the ears of both Club and Cercle Bruges.
