Champions League – Sancho and Haaland save tired BVB, United clearly beats Leipzig – sport

Huge effort, late reward: a penalty shot by Jadon Sancho got the unimaginative ball magicians of Borussia Dortmund back on track in the Champions League. The English super talent cracked the massive defensive concrete of the Russian champions Zenit St. Petersburg in the ghost home game and paved the way to the 2-0 (0-0) victory. The unsuccessful BVB start at Lazio (1: 3) can be ticked off as an annoying slip through the first success.

In the first European home game in the club’s history without spectators, Dortmund had very high possession values, but far too few chances to score for a long time. It was only Sancho who scored the redeeming 1-0 (78th) with a penalty, which brought BVB back into a good position in the premier class million game. Thorgan Hazard was fouled in the penalty area. Erling Haaland increased in stoppage time (90 + 1).

RB Leipzig, on the other hand, received their first defeat of the season. At the English record champions Manchester United, coach Julian Nagelsmann’s team lost 0: 5 (0: 1) on Wednesday evening. The goals were scored by Mason Greenwood (21st), Marcus Rashford (74th / 78th / 90th +2nd) and Anthony Martial (87th) with a penalty. Leipzig had prevailed against Turkish champions Basaksehir Istanbul (2-0) at the start of last week and are now level on points with Paris St. Germain in third place in the table.
