“I’m just happy that the tomb has finally been erected. Now my father is being honored as he deserves it. I am here almost every day if possible. The pain won’t go away either, but you have to come to terms with it, ”said Rocchigiani’s daughter Janina Michalke to the“ Berliner Kurier ”.

Rocchigiani was hit by a pedestrian in Sicily on October 1st, 2018 and later died of his injuries. There was a dispute within the family about the type of burial site. In the end, daughter Janina Michalke and ex-wife Christine Rocchigiani opted for an unusual design. The brother, Ralf Rocchigiani, wanted a simpler resting place.

In 1988 he won the IBF world title in super middleweight. Rocchigiani was able to successfully defend the title three times until 1989. In 1991 he won the European championship title in light heavyweight. In 1995 “Rocky” lost in two legendary duels against reigning world champion Henry Maske in Düsseldorf and Munich. The duels saw millions of viewers live on television. Three years later he became world champion again when he secured the vacant WBC light heavyweight title in 1998. He lost his last fight on May 10, 2003.
