BG Göttingen wins test against Aalst, but is not convincing

In the first few minutes of the game, Tai Odiase was the sole entertainer on the BG offensive. Immediately after the tip-off, Jorge Gutiérrez served him free-standing and stuffed him. But that should change in the future. Points that were scored by the big players in the center position were less common, for Benedikt Turudic some face-offs came too suddenly. The distance shooters stood out for this: First and foremost Luke Nelson, for whom no distance seems too far – he scored eight points in this section, but it stayed that way until the end. On the other hand, the violets had problems on the defensive with center Ivan Maras, who scored 14 of the 21 points for the Belgians and was difficult to hold. The quarter went to Göttingen with 25:21.

Kramer comes in the second quarter

The second half began evenly (33: 33/15.), In which Dennis Kramer played the first test game after his injury break. The first points in the jersey of the BG (to 35:37) scored Galen Robinson. He took turns with Gutiérrez in the build-up of the game, but the teammates they served gave too many opportunities. At the break, the violets were just behind with 42:43, not least because they often only knew how to help themselves on the defensive by fouls. The resulting free throws were used consistently by the Belgians, who had finished eighth when the league broke off the season in spring.

In a battle of words after a tussle for the ball, Gutiérrez’s Central American temperament came through right at the beginning of the second half. Against what felt like twice as heavy Pape Badji, the Mexican lost the ground fight and did not want to accept his apology later.

Odiase is top scorer, Dawkins is disappointed

Also in this quarter the leadership changed constantly. Odiase, who scored ten points in just over seven minutes in the first half, now used his time again and showed how important he is for the team, adding seven more points. On the other hand, Aubrey Dawkins – despite a lot of playing time – did not come to the train as in the previous games when he was some painters top scorer. The third quarter, which was characterized by many free throws, brought the BG eleven points (in 15 attempts) off the line, Aalst sank seven of eight attempts.

With a 63:58 lead, the BG started the last quarter. Here the deeper bank of violets made itself felt. The okapi players no longer had the energy and were therefore no longer as consistent in their conclusion. Unlike Dennis Kramer, who made sure that the lead got bigger and bigger (83: 70/38.) And the game was finally won with a few points worth seeing.

Only the number of assists was positive

Coach Roel Moors was not satisfied with the performance of his team. “That wasn’t good enough – at least not to win a game in the BBL,” he said hard with his players. He missed the aggressiveness on the defensive and complained about the many ball losses (16). The BG head coach had probably imagined Galen Robinson’s debut a little differently: “I would have liked more intensity in defense from him. In attack he didn’t play like a point guard, had no ideas. ”He positively emphasized that the ball had been moved well. 20 assists speak for this.

Jena has only been in training since the beginning of this week and started preparation with a delay. The team and coaching staff had to go into quarantine because there had been positive corona cases in the junior team.
