BC Hohenlimburg: League forces opponents from Berlin to start

Hohenlimburg.
BC Hohenlimburg had already agreed to a relocation, but the guests from the capital still have to arrive. Game operations on the brink.

The badminton second division team can look forward to a successful matchday BC Hohenlimburg back. The SG EBT Berlin was played 6: 1 from the floor, the next day there was a 4: 3 win against SV Berliner Brauereien. For the BCH this meant five points, which brought him to fifth place in the table.

The Hohenlimburgers had actually expected to only have to compete once. The SV Berliner Breweries had asked the league whether their two NRW games in Mülheim and Hohenlimburg could be relocated. The reason was the current pandemic situation, as Berlin and Hagen in particular are considered risk areas and the Berliners did not want to expose their players to any health risk. Both the BCH and the host association from Mühlheim had already approved the move.

SV threatens forced relegation

But the league put a stop to the move and threatened the Berliners with compulsory relegation, as both games would have been rated by the league as non-appearances. The SV did not want to risk that and decided on Friday evening to take the ICE to North Rhine-Westphalia. The league’s decision raises questions in particular, as the association asked all Bundesliga clubs for an opinion on the suspension of the season just a few days ago. A decision should be made this week. For the Berliners the decision will come too late, the previous matchday was still outside.

Organizationally, nothing has changed for the BCH at two home games, there was no additional effort. “Overall, we are totally satisfied. With two ghost games and the constant back and forth with the Berlin breweries, that wasn’t so easy, ”said BCH ace Christian Bald. Against EBT Berlin there was the “Irish top game” in the women’s singles. BCH actor Rachael Darragh competed against compatriot Kate Frost. Both faced each other in the final of the Irish Championship for the past two years, both winning once. This time Darragh prevailed in four sentences.

Special praise for Janik Osthöver

Janik Osthöver joined the regional league reserve of the BCH and replaced Malte Laibacher, who was in quarantine. He cut a very good figure and received special praise from his teammates. Against EBT he was able to impressively win his individual against Tim Krämer in four sets. Osthöver went the full distance against Florian Kaminski from the Berlin breweries and was just beaten with 8:11 in the fifth set. The mixed Lena Fischer / Fabian Stoppel kept a clean slate in the sixth game of the season.

The BCH team won both games on both days in five and three rounds. This makes Fischer and Stoppel the most successful pairing this season. “We are now where we belong,” said Christian Bald, referring to the table. This week, the Hohenlimburgers are waiting for the league’s decision. If the game continues, it will continue on Saturday, November 7th, at home against SG VfB / SC Peine.
