Josep Maria Bartomeu announced on Tuesday evening that he will stop as president of FC Barcelona, but the storm around his person has not yet died down. La Liga boss Javier Tebas is not pleased with the statements he made when announcing his resignation. He lets that know to the Spanish media.
The former chairman of the Spanish top club had to leave the field on Tuesday evening after months of criticism about his performance. A large group inside and outside the club blamed him for the poor performance in recent years, with the 8-2 defeat to Bayern Munich as the highlight.
At his departure, Bartomeu announced that Barcelona wants to join the Europa Super League: a statement that caused bad blood at Tebas. “An unfortunate Bartomeu announces on his last day his participation in an imaginary competition that would mean the downfall of FC Barcelona. This just confirms that he knows nothing about the football industry.”
Barcelona appointed Bartomeu as the new chairman in early 2014. His early years were successful, but in the last two years he has been increasingly criticized. “A sad ending for a chairman who had successes but made a lot of mistakes recently,” said Tebas.
