Badminton – Mia Gindulin was absolutely outstanding

The 1st ÖBV pupil ranking tournament of this year was organized by Wr. Neustadt in the City & Country Club in Vienna. Despite the actually short journey, only three players from ASV Pressbaum could take part, Mia Gindulin, as well as Jonas and Benjamin Miltner. They were looked after on site by Carina Meinke.

Gindulin played her first ÖBV tournament and celebrated a sensational victory in the women’s U11 singles Age and exceeded all of our expectations, ”said a delighted section head Andreas Meinke. The finalists were determined in two groups of three players each. And the talent could not be disturbed by the fact that she was drawn into the group with the 2019 Austrian champion, Ziling Zhan.

Unimpressed, she clearly won her first group game against Leona Mayr from Ohlsdorf. In the second game, she met Zhan. Mia kept up very well in the first set, but lost just 19:21. Then Pressbaum’s talent came into play better and better and was able to win the remaining two sentences and thus sensationally win the group. In the final, the winner of group 2, Luisa Wutte from Carinthia, was waiting. Again Mia got off to a bad start, but this time turned the game around in her favor in the first set – 21:15. The second sentence then clearly went to the Carinthian. “Mia couldn’t control the game anymore,” says Carina Meinke. In the third set she played all of her strengths again and took set three very clearly with 21: 7 and thus her first ÖBV tournament victory!

In mixed U11, Mia competed with Bastian Klinka from St. Pölten. The two of them won their first game in two sets and made it to the semi-finals. There they met the later winners Zhang / Wutte from Carinthia, who were clearly superior to them. In the end there was third place for Mia and Bastian.

The Miltner brothers are playing a tough tournament

Jonas and Benjamin Miltner from Pressbaum both competed in the men’s singles U15 and together in the U15 doubles. In the singles, Benni met Oscar Acimovic from Vienna, who was seeded at two, and provided the second great surprise. In two tight sets he won the game with 21:19, 21:18 and made it to the quarterfinals. Jonas was also able to start with a win and won against Jakob Rinner from Egg, who was three seeded, with 21: 8, 21:16. Against Kevin Ge from Simmering, Jonas clearly won in two sets and thus made it to the semi-finals. Benjamin just had to admit defeat to Oliver Truchanowicz-Schwarz from Vienna and thus slipped into the play-off for 5th to 8th place. While he narrowly lost the first game, he was able to defeat Philipp Riva from Gleisdorf in three sets in the last game and thus the to achieve seventh place.

Jonas, on the other hand, celebrated a clear 2-set win in the semifinals against Truchanowicz-Schwarz and moved into the final. His eternal competitor from Vienna, Piotr Jaszczynski, was waiting there. Jonas also played a good game in the final, but had to admit defeat.

Number one was just a tad too strong

In doubles, the Miltner brothers met the pairing Chung / Moosbrunner in the first game and with 21: 5, 21: 6 they made it through to the quarter-finals. And in this the two managed to surprise again. The pairing of Rinner / Windauer, who were seeded two, they were able to beat in two sets and thus they secured a place among the top four.

“The semi-final against Truchanowicz-Schwarz / Settypalli was then a clear affair for Jonas and Benjamin”, Andi Meinke was amazed. With a 2-set win (21:11, 21:12) they moved into the final. Their opponents were Jaszczynski / Acimovic from Vienna, who were seeded at first. And at this tournament they were a little superior to Benjamin and Jonas and were able to win clearly in two sets. “For the Miltner brothers, second place was like a victory,” said Meinke proud of “his” boys.
